other8026 sahx no. They're the same apps. After installation, Google Play will update itself and the others automatically, again with the one built and signed by Google.
other8026 sahx last I heard they were getting the APKs from a phone running the Stock OS. Not sure if that's the case now. They don't update the Apps repository's APK files often, so it's suggested to let Google Play update itself and the other apps.
sahx Also can i be 100% sure that when i download an app from the play store (play store from apps on gos i mean) that the app is genuine? (As in for example youtube from google llc or proton mail from proton ag is the real deal)
cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd sahx if you don't trust GOS, maybe you should stick with the original ROM... In any case, you can get the APKs of the installed app using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryosoftware.apkexporter or another similar app and then install the app on a standard device using Play Store then try updating the app using the APKs exported from GOS. If the update is correctly installed it is because the signatures are the same. If the signature of the applications is the same, it is because the application has not been modified in any source.
fid02 sahx It's the genuine Play Store. The genuine Play Store downloads the genuine apps that are published on the Play Store. This is from the description of Play Store in the Apps app: Official release of Google Play services without modifications.
sahx cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd Well the thing is i really do want to trust it, but paranoia just hits different
cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd sahx In any case, even if apps are unmodified, when you install a custom ROM it has control of all the system and doesn't not need to change the apps to access their data...
cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd sahx If you are in a "paranoid state" you should think that even if the ROM is open source, no one will have been able to look at the code at 100% or that they can insert new code when compiling... ;) Personally I trust the project. I'm using GOS since more than a year and no one security issue.
sahx cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd Yeah i couldnt find anything sensical online about gos being "not as trustworthy as its made to be" so i do guess its safe and im just being too paranoid. Tho i always have reservations when logging in to my google and proton accounts anywhere.
