someone1223 It sounds like your ISP has an awful connection to OVH in France/Germany. You're working around this by using a VPN where there's a good connection between your ISP and the VPN exit and then from the VPN exit to our update server.
For our website and network services, we have an instance for each in Singapore which is what gets used for India. Unfortunately, OVH only has unlimited, unmetered bandwidth for Europe and North America. The update servers use too much bandwidth to put an instance in Singapore where there are bandwidth caps. Most providers do not offer unlimited, unmetered bandwidth. OVH does offer it for dedicated servers as an EXTREMELY expensive feature. If a company in Asia specifically funded this, we could add an update server in Singapore, but it would be ridiculously expensive compared to our other infrastructure.
There is not much we can do about this in general. Internet routing is best effort in general. It would help if more Indian ISPs peered directly with OVH. Your ISP is likely one of the ones NOT peering with OVH.
OVH has a new DC in India but it only has expensive dedicated servers so far and they have bandwidth caps. It would be great if they got proper peering to avoid bandwidth caps. It seems that in Asia this is a major issue for all companies and stops OVH providing what they usually do in EU/NA. If they resolved it, we'd take advantage of it.
