jet_silver is there any way to engage the first-boot data transfer offer after initial set-up of a Pixel 8 from a Pixel 5a?
According to Seedvault's FAQ, you can type *#*#7378673#*#*
which is the same as *#*#RESTORE#*#*
into the phone app.
jet_silver I put GSF (only, no Play Services) on my 5a, how is that done now? I would like to run Gcam as I can on the 5a without any other Goog 'services'.
You don't need to install GSF to run Google/Pixel Camera anymore. See this release:
add generic compatibility shim catching the exception from the Gservices provider being missing to enable apps like Google Camera and the Pixel eSIM firmware app (Google eSIM activation app is separate) to work without GSF installed since they don't have any actual hard dependency on either GSF or Play services
jet_silver On the 5a I get persistent notifications on the left-hand top bar: Auditor 'Remote verification success', System Updater 'Device is up-to-date'. I have no recollection of how I got those to happen on the 5a and they are reassuring to me. How might I get those to display similarly on the 8?
I thought they were enabled by default? You can confirm they're enabled here:
Auditor: Settings > Apps > All apps > Auditor > Notifications > Remote verification success
System updater: Settings > Apps > All apps > *3 dots in upper right-hand corner* > Show system > System Updater > Notifications > Already up to date
