App installation problem

Hi guys,

im pretty new to Graphene OS. I switched from iOS a week ago and have a special question.

I want to keep the Main profile completly google free. So for Android Auto i created a new profile and installed all the Google stuff for that one. So far so good.

I'm using jellyfin as my music streaming service and installed it from f-droid on my main profile.

Unfortunately apps to show in Android Auto have to be installed from the paly store. So I installed the play store in the second profile and wanted to download jellyfin from there. But that was not possible.

So I deleted jellyfin from my main profile to check if that fixes the issue. And it worked.

But now in can not install jellyfin from f-droid on my main profile anymore.

Is there a possible solution for this?

Problem is they share the same app ID, but different signature. The security mechanism is called 'trust on first install' and it hinders malicious updates from untrusted parties. In this case it's not malicious, but the F-droid version uses its own different signature. This is also a problem cross-profile (the app's data storage is still separated per profile, of course).

Solution: uninstall the F-Droid version. Install the Aurora store version in the de-googled profile and the Play Store version in the googled profile. These are the same, because Aurora Store is just a different fronted to the apps from Play Store.

Installing the same app from two differing sources, even if they are in a separate profile from one another, has a habit of causing issues since they may be different versions i.e. one may not be up-to-date. F-Droid is notorious for that.
