Just to brighten things up: Are both SIM cards working properly?
If in Setting, I select: "Calls & SMS > SMS > <one of the SIMs>
Have you tested both SIMs here? If it only doesn't work with one SIM - is it the physical or the eSIM?
Which SMS app are you using?
I tried to reproduce the behavior you described using the standard GOS Phone and Messaging app:
If two SIM cards are active and I activate "Ask every time" for "Calls" and "SMS" in Settings> Network & internet> Calls & SMS
, my phone behaves as follows:
For calls, I receive the option "Choose SIM for this call" before the call is set up.
For SMS however, I receive the error message: "No preferred SIM selected for sending SMS messages".
If I select <one of the SIMs> instead of "Ask every time" in the above-mentioned Settings
for SMS and then try to send an SMS again, it works fine with both SIM cards.
My guess would therefore be that the standard messaging app does not offer a separate dialog box for selecting the SIM.
