Export everything within the apps (Signal, Contacts, NewPipe subscriptions, Fossify Calendar, Aegis, etc.), locally back up images, videos and files.
Upon setting up a new phone, import everything and set up apps from scratch where necessary. It's a bit messy but it works reliably, and restoring only needs to be done when changing phones anyway (at least for me, I stick to my original GOS setup until the Pixel phone runs out of security updates and then set up a more current Pixel).
A great approach for me has been only installing and setting up apps right before I needed them. This way I get rid of everything I thought to be useful but barely or never actually use.
