date & time retrieving for privacy

I saw a guy on YT ( watch?v=GLJyD9MJgIQ&t=18m0s ) who makes the choice of enabling automatic time set, but he disables automatic zone set ? I have issues understanding his choice... Only possibility I can think of is : he doesn't carry an offline wristwatch + wants to notice, when taking a flight, that the clocktime he came from (displayed on his phone) is different than the time displayed by the landscape clocks he landed on... Is that it, or there are some connectivity check affairs in his decision?

Do not disable your phone's clock auto update. This is required to keep any 2fa codes, in an authenticator app, accurate. You could end up getting locked out of accounts for a small bit of privacy.

Automatic time zone doesn't make any connection. It simply uses the time zone of the cellular network. Time zone is not relevant to the security of the OS and applications, unlike the actual time. Time zone is only for display. Unless there's some way you could be tricked by the time zone, it has no relevance to privacy / security.

Interesting thanks ! I just checked on a device that will always live on airplane mode and no wifi (and never got any SIMcard inserted), and it has accurate time (not atomic time but minutes displayed are the same as a machine using internet/ NTP time) even though I did set its time manually and/or connected it to a wifi network very long time ago (months).
Could it be that it adjusts its clock when I use it for GPS navigation? In its settings > location > location services, it has and wifi and BT scannings off, google location accuracy off, but emergency location service On (with the google icon near it).
