After reading all the posts about screen mirroring WIRELESSLY - not casting - that I could find on this forum, I do not understand what the situation is and why I can't get screen mirroring to work after many, many attempts. I have GOS' sandboxed GSF, Google Play Services, and Google Play Store installed, but when I install apps to do the screen mirroring they always take me to a setting called "Cast", but there it always says that it cannot find any devices. (Oddly I am able to cast, I just can't do screen mirroring.)
1) Does AOSP not have screen mirroring capabilities?
2) Does screen mirroring on android something that absolutely requires a googled phone?
3) Is there something in the nature of GOS that has the unfortunate side effect of preventing screen mirroring from working?
(P.S.: In desparation I wanted to try this idea - I would set up a profile dedicated to only screen mirroring, I'd install GOS' sandboxed GSF, Google Play Services, and Google Play Store, I'd create a gmail account with Google that I'd use only for setting up the Google Home app for screen mirroring, then install the Google Home app (which requires a gmail account) and start screen mirroring. However..... I am unable to even create a gmail account. The process to create a gmail account requires a phone number - I tried several times - which I am unwilling to give to Google. I looked up the nation with the fewest cell phones per capita (Chile), and changed my VPN to use a Chilean server and tried creating the gmail account, but it still demanded a phone number. So, even this plan will not work.)
