New user on GrapheneOS. Having trouble setting up PayByPhone app on my Pixel 7. The app requires the Google Play suite, which it has on the user I set up, but struggling to get the app to fully open up properly. Seems to open but then freezes on a background app screeen without fully opening up.

This app is pretty important for me parking here in my city in the UK.

Any thoughts? I'm a bit of a tech amateur but most things have worked so far, apart from this.

Jaime it sounds like maybe there's a memory bug that's causing the app to hang or crash. You can try enabling the following to see if this fixes it:

Settings > Apps > All apps > PayByPhone > Exploit protection compatibility mode

other8026 Thank you. I tried that compatibility mode thing earlier but still no joy. Originally I installed it via Aurora but then got the app from the Play Store to see is that made a difference but to no avail.

Could it be that the app requires the SIM to be installed? Not in there yet.

Jaime not sure what the problem would be then. Maybe the app logs might provide some insight.

I don't think this is likely to be the culprit.

other8026 Thank you for your help. I'm just going to use the web application rather than the app. That's the workaround.

I ran into a similar issue with my parking app and found it easier to use the web app as well.

I have the same problem with PayByPhone - It just opens up and sits with the background page. I notice if keeps trying to access location every 10 seconds or so in a loop. The Location permission is granted to the app. I didn't realize there is a web app for this, will try it next, but having app is super convenient as it was very snappy on stock Pixel 8 Pro. I also looked the the app log, eyeballed it, but dont see anything that would stand out....?

Same here. Stuck on the gray background image with the buildings and a car after allowing the app to access location. I've given all the access privileges the app was expecting and even payed around a bit with the ones on the GSF, since the Aurora Store shows that as a prerequisite.
Sadly, after a comment on Google Play, the only answer I had from the owner was 'rtfm'. Funny enough, the only technical solution I've found on their website is 'reinstall the app', 'reboot the phone', and such kind of Micro$oft inspired solutions.
If anyone figures out how to run the software, or what's going on, please share. In France several cities made the choice of using only this app for public parking payment so I'm stuck with the need to find a working parking meter every time I have to take my car.

              Hello,

Had the same problem on m'y P8 until I tried to start the app without access to location services. The app started and asked for location access, just press cancel, allow notifications or not depending on your needs ans select your country. After that the app allows to login and works flawlessly. If you don't want to have to type parking codes you may give it location access.

Another possibility is to use the website to pay for parking.

I had the same problem as detailed above-- app hanging on the opening screen. I uninstalled the app, then reinstalled via sandboxed Google Play. I then disallowed ALL permissions. Then started the app and tried to log in, which obviously failed due to no network access. Then I enabled Network, logged in, which opened the app, and then I enabled Location. This has worked for me and the app seems to be fully functional, although I havent actually paid for parking with it yet. This is on a P7

This was the solution for me. Totally counter intuitive. I never in a million years would have suspected disabling location permission would've fixed it, but it did.

Anyways I always type the parking number into the app, the app using location never helped me use it.

I have had struggles with this too, but with the Square Point of Sale app. The app requires I have precise location permissions enabled in order to be able to receive or run payments for business. The app does not find approximate location sufficient, but the moment I grant precise location permission, the app will crash and will not open for more than a few seconds before crashing again. It has been rather frustrating because now I have to use another googled android phone in order to use them. It used to work maybe two Januarys ago, but something changed between now and then to break app compatibility. Exploit Protection Compatibility mode does not have affect the app in any way.

you can check the log.. you can export the log from the app properties and see where is hanging or giving an error.

fgafr This is also the only for me to get it working.
