Screen autolock when placed face-down

Idk if this is the appropriate place to ask this, but it's a feature I've gotten quite annoyed with and can't find it in settings to fix it. When holding my Pixel 7 above my head, or placing it face down, the screen automatically goes off within a few seconds of not touching the screen. I assume there's a way to fix this, and I'm just dumb lol

"Device administrator" apps can do that. There is an app (motionlock or private lock?) that locks the device when "falling" using your accelerometer (requires sensor permission), but it completely locked my device as it probably needed calibration.

So be careful, those apps can lock you out completely. Best back up data and enable oem unlocking before testing.

I would not use privatelock, because it is outdated and may cause issues like that.

MotionLock, in the DivestOS fdroid repo, says that it does exactly that.

missing-root thank you for your response! Can those apps do the opposite though? I.e., keep the screen on when the device is face-down? My issue is that, without any device admin apps, my device screen locks when placed face-down

I didn't quite understand if you are bothered by the screen going off and then the screen being locked or if you want it to happen at the same time. In any case screen timeout and screen lock can be decoupled In the system settings : Screen lock can be adjusted under settings>Security>screen lock>lock after screen timeout.

Here you can set values between "immediately" and 30 minutes.

I dont get what you are asking for. Do you want to lock or unlock your phone?

An app cant just unlock your phone, that would be a huge security issue.

That's weird behavior and I don't have that on my GOS device. Maybe you have a hardware defect (the proximity sensor for calls comes to mind, but that should only turn off the screen while using the phone app).

Anyway, to isolate the issue, could you start a fresh user profile and see if, without changing the settings, the odd behavior remains? If not, probably some setting or app on your main profile is causing it...

Also, do you have developer settings enabled? If yes, disable them (which resets all the changes you did there) and see if that fixes your issue.
