  • Clocks supporting Direct boot

I tested lots of Clock apps for their ability to alarm on a fresh reboot without even entering a SIM pin.

This is required to have auto-reboot and reboot after system update to work, without oversleeping ;D

Working

preinstalled AOSP clock

Works reliably but no support for hardware buttons or shake. Also looks pretty... blue.

new clock

Support for hardware buttons, shake and flip. Apart from that a fork of the AOSP clock. More modern design but not much more recently updated.

Has a minor glitch where the alarm screen doesn't cover the whole screen of a Pixel 6a, works normally though.

Not working

(often not based on AOSP clock)

Chrono

Clock You

AlarmClock

NFC Alarm Clock

Fossify / Simple Clock

Alarm Klock

QR Alarm

Shake Alarm Clock

Google Clock works.

It plays a nice tune which is not selectable from within the app itself. Another reason to have forced reboot. Lmao

Anyone got an alarm from a secondary profile working after reboot, or is this impossible?

Extremely off-topic, but I use a physical alarm clock, with a ringer.
I put it on a shelf where you can really adjust anything you want.
This clock works without internet, wakes you up at the time you want,
I'm not sure why we need to digitalize our entire world. And I'm a big crypto enthusiast.

Relaks had no idea there is a Google Clock lol. Poorly flarum doesnt allow edits after x minutes so this will be a thread.

Clock apps do not require network access to sound an alarm.

missing-root It's configurable whether it's allowed forever but we had to disable it due to trolls and spammers. The issue is that moderators don't have a way to review recently edited comments so someone can edit in horrible things like links to CSAM or gore in an old post. It was happening very frequently with spam. We'd happily allow more than 10 minutes to edit but the options available are disallowed, until next reply (does not block what we need to block), 10 minutes or forever.

For some strange reasons, the version "test" of new-clock does not work, setting all the needed permissions.

On my device it works, on another one it doesnt. Have manually exported the apk and installed on the other device.

Meanwhile the stock, blue AOSP clock works normally.

SovereignCopper That's true and thank you so much for this great recommendation! I'm using it instead of NFC Alarm Clock now! So it does have Direct Boot right?

          SovereignCopper

That clock is nice! It is modern, better than the Google clock and works well.

It works in the BFU state

          • no snooze
          • delete after first use

Work too. "Custom ringtone" seems to use a fallback but a different one than the default.

The other features are great too.
