Android Auto and Bluetooth calls

So far I've had little issue with android auto; I set it up as a separate profile that shuts itself down when not in use and haven't seen google location tracking able to see anything outside of when it's on (both saving battery and limiting location-based tracking)
In fact Waze/OSM& installed via the aurora store and revanced(via vanced microg, which removes most of the microg libs) work without issue; which I didn't think would be as easy when sandboxed google play was added to support AA.
I've noticed that calls in the default or google dialer wont feed through the dashboard audio, not even showing up as an option to change to. I tried checking if I was missing a permission for nearby devices in one of the services, preventing bluetooth headset switching, but unplugging android auto and using bluetooth calls works fine.
I find it weird because AA automatically starts a bluetooth connection to the car and voice commands work fine when enabled, routed through the car mic. Either way this new update has been great for any activity I use my phone for now. Calls, while driving, with maps up, are pretty low on the list of needs.

I know this is an old topic, but it's currently the first result on Google for this issue so I figured I'd add what fixed this for me:

When I first set up Android Auto, I didn't activate the "Wireless Android Auto" permissions in the GrapheneOS settings for it, because my car doesn't have wireless AA. Apparently that setting is required to manage bluetooth connections.

What I did to fix this issue:

In:

Settings App > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Android Auto

Enable the following setting:

Allow permissions for wireless Android Auto

Hopefully this helps someone else to resolve this confusing issue.

The official Android Auto usage notes on the GrapheneOS web site include:

For some cars, baseline permissions for wireless Android Auto are needed even when using wired Android Auto. Therefore, if wired Android Auto is unable to connect to the car with only wired permissions granted, try granting wireless permissions instead.
