Hi all,
I'm playing around with the recently added support for Android Auto... I'm so thankful for it, it seriously is the last hurdle I need to move back to GrapheneOS! It's mostly working the way I want it to. The only issue is voice commands - I think it's super important from a driving safety standpoint so I can keep my eyes on the road. I haven't been able to get them to work in offline mode or found an alternative.
Here's what I've tried:
- Installing the Google and Speech Synthesis apps with network mode - makes it work fine, but I'd rather not give Google apps network access
- Downloading the offline models for both of the apps, then revoking network access - stops working right away
- Leaving network access on for both apps, but blocking Google at DNS level - "Oops, something went wrong"
- Installed Dicio, another voice assistant, and set it as the default - AA just doesn't use it, and the Vosk model is very finicky compared to Google's
- Given up, tried to use voice typing in OsmAnd and Organic Maps - both of them just pop up a keyboard in the car screen with not even a voice typing option, I would need to unlock my phone to tap the voice typing button.
I'm curious to know if anybody else has gotten something similar to work or has some ideas I could try next. I really, REALLY want to get this to work and I feel I'm so close!
