That doesnt work for me. Used mullvad Leta and Startpage, nothing appeared.

The Browser is scanning for Opensearch Engines right? Or URL parameters?

I saw a guide where you needed to change the HTTP request from POST to GET or the other way around, did that, also didnt work

missing-root Correct. You can add any search engine which implements OpenSearch.

You can add Startpage as a search engine in Vanadium. Before you conduct a search (also make sure it's not in incognito mode), you have to go into the settings of Startpage and change the HTTP request method from "POST" to "GET." Conduct a search and you should see it show up in the list of search engines.

Mullvad Leta is accessible only with a paid Mullvad VPN account, so that most likely would cause an issue adding it as a search engine within Vanadium.

Unfortunately I can't help with Leta, because it requires a paid Mullvad VPN account.

Search.brave.com will not appear as as option for me in Settings, Search, after doing a sample search as suggested. Has anyone been able to add it recently? The only options are ones that I wouldn't personally touch with a ten foot pole and duckduckgo, which according to the latest article on Reclaimthenet.org uses questionable sources especially in this US election year and then next year for Canada. I'd really like to get the Brave search engine installed if possible in Vanadium.

nomogoogly I just tried it and it worked for me. I went to search.brave.com, did a quick search, then went to the search engine settings, and it shows up under "Recently visited".

other8026 Maybe I'm missing something. I'm on a new pixel 8 pro with the latest grapheneos. I bring up search.brave.com, do a search, enter settings from the hamburger menu, then search engines and I have bing, ddg, etc but no brave. No recents option showing either.

I think you should check out Kagi Search, if you think Duckduckgo is any good. Kagi is very good, and it gives you a lot of features and customizations 😊
They use their own index ( but also have Google and Bing as backup). It gets better every day, and you can actually contribute to make it better! 😁👌

nomogoogly Doesn't sound like you're missing anything. That's exactly what I did.

Probably a long shot, but are you using incognito? Maybe that would make a difference? (I haven't checked.)

I can confirm this (just tried it out of curiosity): search.brave was only suggested to me as a search engine in Vanadium after I repeated the above steps leaving incognito mode.

Got it. Incognito wasn't on when I was trying before. But Allow Third Party Cookies was set to disabled. After enabling that, I could set search.brave.com as my search engine through the now-showing Recent option. Many thanks.

I have tried 8 months later brave search, I must say that it has made great progress. I will start using it in parallel with duckduckgo.

These instructions don't seem to work. At the least, they are insufficient. When I first setup the phone I enabled just about every privacy feature available and I'm guessing one of those is preventing it. I tried in a non-incognito tab, but that didn't help. I also tried enabling third party cookies but that also didn't help. I enabled popups, ads, anything I could think of but nothing works.

Search for "Vanadium"
Click three dots in top right of browser
Click "Settings"
Click "Search engine"
See the same list every time of Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft Bing, Yandex, DuckDuckGo.

Why can't I just manually add one?
Why isn't Brave Search in the default list?
Why doesn't auto-adding work with security features enabled?
How can I work around this and actually add Brave Search?

Solution (found in GitHub issue on the topic) was to turn off Javascript and then repeat the steps above. No idea why turning off JavaScript did the trick.
