Google play pop up

so i just got a full screen pop up unprompted while using an unrelated app where google play is telling me i have to update some random app ive got to keep using it. The app was not even open in the background or anything nor was google play. Is there a way to prevent Google play from doing this?

You installed the app from Google Play, so you have that installed. On GrapheneOS apps can still

run in the background
see each other including the version I suppose?
talk to each other if both apps accept it (they are working on a fix)
display messages (lol)

So to fix this, you would either need to use a different store, or disable google play temporarily and enable it when using it again.

missing-root Maybe i wasnt clear when i am using entirely different apps it is opening a screen covering everything telling me to update this random app. Like ill be on tiktok and itll open to tell me to update some other random app.

Is there no way to just like not allow google play to run in the background and put random pop ups on my screen without disabling it entirely?

Kinsy i dont use sandboxed GP so i am not super familiar. But it sounds like this could be related to the "display over other apps" permission found in settings > apps > special app access, and possibly "picture in picture" setting found on the "app info" page.

You should also check your GP settings and app update settings inside GP as well as notification settings for GP.

Preventing background activity for an app can be found in the battery usage setting of the app.
