I recently swapped from a 4a to a 7a (i.e. from Android 13 to 14), and I've noticed that my apps crash more frequently than on my previous phone.
For example, I've noticed apps that I leave in the background (without closing them) reset much more often and much more quickly (and afaik I've not given them any special restrictions), to the point it's deleting things I did in an app because I had to swap 2 minutes to a different app. My music app "bricked" and only after a reinstall works, with the catch that when autoplaying the next enqueued song it mutes itself. Or melonDS (a game emulator) crashes when trying to read an .xml file. I used all these apps on my previous phone in the same ways, and in years I had never come across these problems, so I think it must be an OS issue.
Is there any security setting I might've toggled on that is making all these apps work inconsistently or crash? Any solution to the app's resetting in the background?
I'm on patch 2024010400 (still haven't received today's update), and I have Play Services installed (with only network and notifications permissions enabled). I apologize if this is too vague, it's just that I have tried the only things that come to mind (playing with the apps' permissions and compatibility mode) and nothing has worked yet.
