Lockout_Pin to confirm what Hulk has already stated, having used the PIN scrambling feature, auto reboot etc from Android 11 and now on 13 that the features work as intended and without issue.

Do you have multiple users set up? Could you be using a different users PIN?

Just wanted to give an update - I have exactly zero idea what happened, but after a few hours (and a few reboots after I got locked out for longer and longer periods oO), suddenly the PIN got accepted.
Yes, the same PIN i had tried all the time before
Yes, I was using the scambled number pad correctly...
No, I simply cannot replicate it (hopefully!)

As I said, no idea....
Ill just forget it happened and hope I dont run into this problem again while on the road.

    Lockout_Pin
Glad to hear that it worked out in the end!
Hopefully it will never ever happen again.
But just in case, please write down your PIN somewhere.
    Just in case

I have exactly the same problem as Lockout_Pin . I'm on a Pixel 6a with an up to date GOS. I newly installed GOS, setup 3 profiles with apps - all with the same 10-digit PIN, NO scrambling, I wrote it down. I used it for 3 days heavily & then all of a sudden the PIN stopped working. I tried logging into other profiles, same thing. I had no other choice other than a factory reset, which I begrudgingly did.

I then repeated the whole setup again installing all apps in 3 profiles, registering apps, same PIN, no scrambling. Used it for 1 day & now I have the same problem!!!! I managed to get in once, & then immediately proceeded to try to change the PIN but it wouldn't accept the current PIN. Then when I tried another profile, I couldn't get in, & eventually got locked out of the Owner profile too.

I am a new GrapheneOS user, an IT Security professional, I use Qubes as my main desktop OS & have 30+ years experience in the industry. Believe me - I am entering the right PIN code, it was saved in Bitwarden.

I really don't know what to do now. I can't be factory resetting & setting this up every few days. Any ideas what's going on?

I also have the this problem. I'm using a Pixel 7.
My phone ran out of battery and after turning it on again my PIN isn't working anymore. I'm 100% sure its the right PIN (used it the day before) and there is no way somebody else changed it. PIN scrambling is deactivated and was never turned on.

admyqb try reboot, turn off phone for some time and turn it on any try.
if u managed to into the phone, use password instead of pin

Thanks for the suggestions but I had no luck so far.

Seems like I have to reset my phone. I will be trying the password this time and hope this wont happen again.

If pin is broken, try using password instead. It might solve the problem, or pin is not the problem, but rather screen lock, in which case you're screwed.
      Good luck fixing your phone!

I just want to chime in that I recently encountered a similar issue (with Stock Android on a Samsung device). Out of nowhere the OS stopped accepting my pin (saying it was incorrect). Fortunately a hard restart fixed the issue. But it was still unnerving

I am also experiencing this very thing as we speak. What a paradox!!! On one hand this is extremely frustrating, and concerning, and on the other hand it's definitely secure as to not let me in...

Developers, please look into this. It's the UNKNOWN reason for the problem that, in my opinion, is now a security issue, ironically....

There's nothing a developer can do when a user is incorrectly inputting their own PIN...

I have found that passwords and PINs work ever so much better when you type them in correctly.

      Each and every time.
