I recently decided to try Roamless, a global data-only eSIM service, and thought I’d share my experience in case it helps anyone looking for a data only sim option.

Before this, I was mainly using a data-only SIM from jmp.chat. That service has worked well for me, especially since the data balance doesn’t expire and i only pay for what i use. Roamless seems to follow a similar idea, but with a few differences.

Roamless offers both monthly plans and a pay-as-you-go option. The pay-as-you-go rate I’m seeing is $2.45 per GB, which is a cheaper than what I was paying with jmp.chat(6.99 per GB). Like many newer eSIM services, you need to use their mobile app to configure the eSIM and track your data usage. The app also includes an in-app balance system that can be used for data or for making calls through the app (It didnt work for me as it shows No CALL SERVICE, needs to check that further but they are planning for a Voip service in future.)

One thing I noticed when installing the app is that it shows a Google Play Integrity usage warning. In my case it hasn’t caused any problems though. the app still works normally, and I was able to activate the eSIM and use the service without any issues.

During testing, the speeds were surprisingly good. My Speedtest results were consistently above 400 Mbps, which is noticeably higher than what I usually see with jmp.chat ( typically around 200 Mbps ). Roamless also supports 5G(in US uses T-mobile and AT&T networks), which might explain some of the speed difference. However, I did notice that the data consumption felt a bit higher compared to jmp.chat. I’m currently testing it with the sim locked to 4G only to see if that changes anything.

They also give a 500 MB free trial, which is nice for testing the service, although it disappears pretty quickly if you run speed tests like I did.

One difference worth mentioning is payments. Unlike jmp.chat, which supports more privacy-friendly payment options, Roamless currently only accepts credit/debit cards for adding balance.

Also just to clarify for anyone concerned about privacy: their privacy policy doent look very good and this is not a privacy-focused service. It’s simply a data-only eSIM meant for global travelers who want a convenient way to get mobile data in multiple countries without constantly buying local SIM cards but can be used a data only sim even if you are not traveling.

Overall, the biggest advantage in my opinion is that its cheap, the balance doesn’t expire and it works globally, which could make it a good option for people who travel frequently for even who just need a cheap data only sim.
